Unlike most of my experiments with vidding, this vid began as less concerned with argument than with imagery, though in the end I think it does make an argument. It’s about the multiple identical female/cyborg bodies, the way they were never allowed either to develop solidarity with one another or to fully embrace the possibilities of being machine, the way Grace Park’s character (model eight) in particular was always either betraying or being betrayed (Lisa Nakamura has related this to the coding of the Asian female body). The vid aims to comment on and reflect the disposability of those robot bodies, whose gendering and racialization underlines the real-world inequalities that usually underlie stories about robot and cyborg labor.
